Red, White and Blue

Well, it's a red, white and blue day today - or if you live in my world, that would be aqua, white and raspberry! That's the beauty of this lovely colour combination - that is, whichever tones you go for, all rooms look beautiful when they are decorated in red, white and blue. This pic is of my son's bedroom in our old house in Sydney - we call it the 'circus bed' - a lovely reminder that at the end of all, life is a bit of a circus - but there's always a smile to be found underneath the big top...

I love this photo and remember seeing it in a magazine at one point. Nice knowing it is your sons and the bed is very cool.

Hi Shannon,
I love this room - how lucky your son is to have such a lovely space. The colour scheme is just beautiful - I'm a red, white and blue girl too - although I'm more cobalt blue and magenta - does that count?

Oh, there is that awesome Aqua I asked you about before. I loved this room and thought you done a fantastic job designing the bed and storage for the room.

Flicking through my old Inside Out Mags on the weekend (i'm on a self imposed mag buying ban - there are too many in my house so i'm resorting to back issues!!) - and I re read your article about your sons bed. You are one stylish chick Ms Fricke!! x

So am guessing he outgrew it or it doesn't work with the new lifestyle?

I have some gorgeous quilts in one of the flickr groups I run in this colourway ...here is one http://www.flickr.com/photos/22833158@N05/2448799017/in/set-72157603974239543/

Hi MQ,
Sadly we moved - and it was built-in to the room. Hopefully the people living there now truly appreciate its beauty!

I love the wave shape out of the all-white wood. What a lovely memory your son will have of his circus bed!

Finally worked out why my answer to your comment was not going through Shannon...something weird happened and I had to fill in the name/url ...do not know why!!!

The quilts in that set are not mine Shannon and readers...
I run some groups on flickr to encourage artisans worldwide, sort of a show and tell for adults and also to help people with their crafting woes or dilemmas and this is the quilt of one of the people in those groups. She does edgy stark modern ones as well as more quirky ones. My quilts are really contemporary takes on traditional quits and also I love to use reclaimed fabrics rescued quite often as they are about to go into the bin at charity and other shops...sometimes being thrown out on the roadside believe it or not! The Eastern Suburb's residents throw stuff away that other people buy in shops!!!

I thought that quilt would have looked stunning in that room and I emailed her and she loved your son's room and thought the quilt went perfectly Shannon!! I really hope the current owners appreciate that room and the cabin bed too but sometimes we have to let it go don't we? Otherwise we could drive ourselves mad!

That's such a lovely thing to do MQ - that particular quilt you mention is just divine and would go so beautifully in Joe's old room. I just love handmade quilts - sadly, I have not been given the quilting gift - but it is such a precious talent to have. I think that patience is a must for this kind of thing and I am sorely lacking in this department!
It's been over two years since that bed and I departed company - it was a sad day - and my son still talks of it fondly (funny little thing he is). Thankfully I have these gorgeous pics to remind me of times past! Sigh!

Love the room. I'm a huge fan of this color combo. I did a post on it a couple weeks back.

That bed is amazing.

Such a great color combination. And love how you painted the Tunisian birdcage like that.
