Speaking of beautiful styling - I had the great pleasure to meet a colleague of mine a few weeks ago at the Furnitex Decoration and Design Exhibition in Melbourne. Jason Grant, stylist for Inside Out, amongst others (and soon to be style director at Real Living) is absolutely gorgeous and his work divine. Although we have worked on the same mag, we live many miles apart and so it was a great pleasure to spend lunch with him at this wonderful event. And so, I thought that I'd share some of his work with you. These pics are from Notebook mag - another fave - which I hope you love. sx

The room above with its beautiful details and decoration is stunning! Amanda
These images are beautiful. All this talk of stylists, I'm wondering if you are able to give us an insight to exactly what a stylist does and how far you go. What I mean is, when we pick up a magazine and see a person's home featured, is most of the decoration theirs and you just style the actual shots using their things, or do you bring a truck load of your own props to pretty it up? This is something I've always wondered...but I understand if it's giving away trade secrets!
Hi Barbara,
A stylists role varies depending on the type of shoot they are doing. In the case of photographing a person's house for a story on the owner, then the stylist will come in and (with the photographer) decide on the best angles to photograph the house and then make sure that the shots work well in the camera frame (in terms of proportion etc). Then they may add some flowers and rearrange a few elements, however all of the pieces belong to the homeowner. Sometimes, a stylist is required to do a shoot in a studio (or on a location) about a specific theme (say, the colour pink , for example) and they will bring in all of the elements they want to photograph, and arrange them to make them look their best in the frame. In this case, they borrow all the bits and bobs from shops and designers for the shoot and then send them back at the end of the day.
Hope that sheds some light on the subject.

Thanks Shannon. I've always wondered how it worked. Sounds like you have a dream job!
