Chooks A Go-Go....

Although I love all of my animals up here on the farm, I admit that I do have a soft spot for my chooks - or 'the girls' as they are affectionately called around here. Could there be anything more satisfying than the little gifts that the chooks leave for us everyday? And all that they ask for is some grains, garden and vege scraps and fresh water. My girls have a lovely and large chook pen to run around in - to keep them safe from night time predators and Isobel, our Spoodle, whom I catch licking her chops whenever she is in their presence!

I have chooks too! 8 to be exact. I love them also, they are such an easy pet. Our eggs are so full of flavour I can't ever imagine eating any other kind. Don't they have funny personalities? lol
They are so neurotic. We have a similar set up to yours and there are 5 different laying nests but they always squabble over one particular spot.
We have 3 white, 4 brown and 1 one black. I'd love to get some "prettier" chooks like the chinese silky and the speckle varieties.

We have some "girls" too, though lately we've been having some difficulty with the local stray cats (we have bantams). They're so fun to watch aren't they? Especially when they are clucky...

while my mum loved her chooks ...I have terrible memories of being harrassed by a tiny black bantam rooster!!!!

I admit Ness, that I do love all of the glamour that the design world offers up. However, I love it even more, knowing that I can go home to the farm and dig the dirt. It keeps me centred, and reminds me that all that we have is the here and now....
