Meditation In Motion...

This weekend is a good weekend because I've put aside some time for the garden. Oh, I do love to garden - although it's constant work up here on the farm. Just when you think you've got the place in order, the rains come, the weeds make their way to the surface and voila - more work to be done. Even though the garden requires constant maintenance, it is such a fulfilling place to spend my time. I find that gardening is another form of meditation or rather meditation in motion, which is more my kind of reflection. My relationship with the garden is a little like a metaphor for life - that with patience, gentle and constant tending and watering, and an excitement about what could be - it will rise up to meet your expectations. I find that life's like that too... Yes, it's a lovely day to spend in the garden.

That's fine RedTicking,
That particular photograph was taken by Prue Ruscoe and is of my daughter Inezs' bedroom in our old house in Sydney. Ah, it brings back memories of a time when the kids were small. (snuffle, snuffle!)

What a lovely way to look at your garden Shannon, the only term I feel comfortable using around ours is 'urban jungle warfare'! One day we'll be as one, but for now the garden is winning hands down.

I have to agree with Millie. One day, I hope to have a beautiful garden I can tend to with joy. But the combination of a two year old needing constant attention and no real rain since, like, November.... it's looking like a place that plants come to curl up and die.

I also spent my Sunday in my vegetable garden with my two young daughters. We have slowly been turning brown thumbs green and can now make a meal from its produce. It is work for the soul, meditation, hard physical activity and a satisfaction at the end of the day that something has been accomplished.
Gardening is one of the factors that my mother credits with her beating the 'year to live' prognosis of cancer over 13 years ago. Long may she garden!
