Where Will The Heart Reside....

If home is where the heart is then where do our hearts reside when we lose our homes to the wrath of nature's fury?

As most of you know, this week Australia has been ravaged by the worst fires in our history so far. Many people have lost their homes and in some tragic cases, their loved ones, in a blaze that has been sweeping much of Victoria without warning and without the hope of escape.

In tragic times like these - our hearts have no other place to reside than within the support of one another. Please give generously to the Red Cross Victorian Fire Appeal 2009 www.redcross.org.au

Well said! It's heartbreaking to see people lose their homes, but heartwarming to know it's actually the photos, memories and people close to them that they miss more. Let's hope the death toll doesn't climb any higher.

beautifully put and so evocative of what is going on in Victoria

I think we will need, as a nation, to learn lessons from this about what really matters in life...horses do not matter, houses do not matter....people matter and the memories you are going to make together

i just wept as i saw the faces of the dead on the news tonight

it's terrible to see the trauma on some of the victim's faces, the children crying, and the devastation. i feel my eyes welling up in sympathy, but something you're seeing time and again is people just feeling grateful to be alive.

home is where the people you love are.

I agree with LexyB, incredibly well said. It really is gut wrenching, and hard to get a grasp that it is actually reality. beautiful post shannon xx

The unimaginable has happened in this country. Bush fires are nothing new but the tragedy and loss of life has been absolutely horrific. The tragic news makes me cling to my own family just a little bit closer. Let's do all we can to help the survivors rebuild their lives as they deal with what has happened.

I'm glad you posted about it Shannon - the more people who are aware the better - I think our hearts reside in Victoria at the moment whether we live there or not.

It's incredibly difficult to imagine the scale for me. Giving money is all I can do but wish I could do more! Many times I've dreamt about a tree or sea change from Sydney but DH has always fought against the Blue Mountains because of the bushfires, It's hard to take that it was also not an act of nature but of arson. I really can't bear to think of the lives lost and the wildlife.

My heart goes to all of who was suffering from the fires.. and even if Kuwait is a million miles away from Australia, the people of kuwait are all praying for those who suffered or lost loved ones.
