InsideOut Comes To The Farm....

Hello there everyone...

I've been offline over the past few days trying to come to terms with the drama that is my computer breakdown!!! Doesn't life just come to a screaming halt when the technology is not working.

However, I seem to be back on track and what perfect timing too as the new issue of Inside Out has just hit the stands - and inside is a story about my life up here on the farm and featuring my farmhouse reno too. I know that some of you have already seen it because I've been receiving some lovely emails about it. For those of you who don't live in Australia or don't get to see Inside Out - here it is... I hope you like it. All the pics are by none other than the divine Prue Ruscoe - who seems to wave a magic wand making everything look more beautiful than it really is - even the photograph of me with the washing basket! Thank you Prue! Also, a big thanks to the gorgeous Alix Johnson, for writing such lovely things about us.

Now that the pics are out I can give you a before and after sneak peek into the house reno - what we've done and how we've done it. So stay tuned...

p.s I thought it might be fun to do a bit of giveaway of this latest issue of Inside Out. So, I have five issues of the March/April issue (featuring yours truly) to give away. All you need to do is leave a comment telling me why you'd like a copy of Inside Out magazine and five lucky winners will receive one magazine each. All comments need to be in by February 15th at 5pm. Good luck!

p.p.s Remember if you are leaving an anonymous comment then please leave your name at the end of the comment so that I know who you are!

Love the sneak peeks. A subscription was top of my Christmas wish list but sadly never happened. I would love the new issue as another hint for a subscription!! I need a farm too...maybe this Christmas...

Inside Out magazine has the edge that inspires.

I would love to win a copy because magazines are now luxury to me.

I sometimes find back copies of Inside Out at Vinnies for 50c and when I do my week is made.

Love your blog and your home.

Oooh, I'd love to win a copy, but I don't know if I can wait that long so I might buy it anyway! Your home looks so lovely. I'm doing a research assignment for my interior decorating TAFE course and I think I will use these images. I love the wallpaper. And your lounges are just so lovely.
Cheers.

I would love a copy of Inside Out because........I am a newly converted "homebody"- a newish mum who about a year ago, left her fast-paced, hectic job as a designer in corporate downtown Sydney- and am coming to terms with it verrrry slowly. I had been gasping for creative "air" for over a year now that I am not working, and have recently discovered it in blogs like yours, fabulous books like your book "Sense of Style", fresh and alive Design Magazines like Inside Out .....and learning to just "potter-around", enjoy each day as it comes and just simply open my eyes to the world that exists around me. Im getting there. Ezabelle

PS I've never heard of Inside Out...maybe that is why I'd like a copy:)

Hello from Canada! If I am lucky enough to have a copy sent across oceans to my little beach house, I will be performing a 'happy' dance' and posting it for everyone to see. (I need/want/must have the issue for my bookshelf with 'Blogger' books!)

Love your blog...your home is wonderful... so are you. It is difficult to get that mag in the states

Your home is so beautiful Shannon, congratulations on the feature! xx

congrats on the Inside Out article! it's one of my favorite sources of inspiration for work, play, and home.

I already have a copy of InsideOut but I wanted to let you how delightful it was to open the magazine up and see these gorgeous photos. Your house is an insiration! I would love to see the 'before' and how much work has gone into the 'after'. It's stunning. Congratulations.

Hi Shannon
I subscribe to Inside Out (totally love the magazine) and so I don't need to win a copy. I'm beside myself with excitement that there's a feature of you in it. You make a very glam farmer's wife there. I can't wait to my beloved goes to the post office to collect the mail now!
I also subscribed to Cookie magazine after you mentioned it. Probably not the wisest thing to do after Domino went belly up but you gotta have faith hey?

I'm really going to feel like a tree/sea change after that issue!

Love love LOVE the blue colours you have used...I am in the process of changing up my living room to include colours like this. So lovely to see what you have done.

I would like to win a copy because I and my partner have just bought our first place - a tiny little nineteenth century terrace that has had a not-unpleasant, but not exactly inspiring, bathroom and kitchen reno. And mismatched paint in all the other rooms. We need the help! (I want wallpaper like in the first picture in my study).

Wow! Looks beautiful. I can't wait to see more of the bathroom, especially!

I'd love a copy of the magazine... I moved from Texas to Holland last year & had to leave my subscriptions behind. I don't speak Dutch very well yet so the magazines don't hold my attention for longer than it takes to look at the photos!

The pictures are very beautiful, I agree. Your home is lovely and I can't wait to hear about and see more. When I came upon the photo of you with your laundry basket I too thought, 'what a beautiful photo!'. Thanks for the chance to see some Aussie style!

I would LOVE a copy of the magazine! I don't know if I've ever seen it on the stands here, I'll have to really look next time I'm at Barnes and Noble. It looks so lovely, Shannon.

Shannon the photos of your reno are lovely and it's so nice that what you speak about in your books also comes across in the style of your very own home.

I would love to get a copy of the Inside Out issue because unlike yourself I don't have a design bone in my entire body and with a new house to make into a home I welcome every piece of inspiration that comes my way :)

Gorgeous!

I'd really really want a copy since I don't live anywhere close enough to buy one for myself. I can't do this whole decorating on my own... which is why I'm here so often.

OMG, I have a copy of Inside Out still wrapped in plastic on my coffee table, waiting for my next spare hour or so to indulge (not very forthcoming with a two year old). I am so excited to know your beautiful place is featured! I've been waiting so keenly for a sneak peek..... Hooray!

Shannon Fricke said...

Hi all,
Thank you all so much for your lovely comments - I'm glad you like the article. Now a couple of you have asked about my laundry basket and where it comes from and I'm afraid I have rather bad news here because the basket is about 15 years old and I have no idea where I bought it from (what with the post baby mushy brain that I haven't managed to shake - 10 years on!!!!) However, if I were to hazard a guess, I would probably say Orson and Blake - or maybe Papaya. But I can't be sure. Anyone out there got any ideas?

Your home is gorgeous, I plan on moving to the area at the end of the year and I can't wait, your story is my inspiration to leave the city to live in a more relaxed slower paced lifestyle and wow you do it with so much style, congratulations x

Lovely article Shannon, and reading it calmed me down somewhat while I waited for a big job interview yesterday!

Okay I have received my copy tonight and it it wonderful. I've mentioned it on a couple of my favourite Blogs. I love the Florence Broadhurst wallpaper. She's such an exotic character! I am thinking about doing the same thing in our hallway. Your children are adorable and I also loved the fireplace with the candles and the crosses. You looked stunning and I'm so glad that Alix Johnson was the writer as I really enjoyed her feature on her tree change. Such a poetic interesting writer! But where was all your clutter and magazines? LOL

Shannon.. I've just learned about you through all of my wonderful Aussie bloggers and I've been enjoying your blog for the past few weeks. Would love love love a copy of the mag featuring your home as we don't get that mag over in the states and in fact are losing a lot of our good home magazines. Your style is beautiful, unfussy and yet perfectly done.

Of course your house is gorgeous - just as I thought it would be! I feel like a stalker but I have been filing pictures away of your home since you first appeared in INSIDE/OUT with just little Inez.(I even have an editorial that was done in SHE magazine). Your house/s have always spoken to my heart and soul and I liked seeing them evolve - change of furniture and a bit of a refurb. Thank you for sharing your home and I hope to see more of your house on your blog - especially your kitchen! I'm totally envious of where you live - we got married in Bangalow a few years ago!
Keep up the great work!

Your home is gorgeous Shannon! I just received the new copy of Inside Out this weekend. I live in The Netherlands but have an international subsciption as it is such a great magazine (one of my favorites!). I spent this weekend admiring your beautiful home!

Dear Shannon,

Your home looks lovely and the article in the magazine Inside Out seems to do it great credit. I have a chronic decor magazine addiction which could be assuaged by winning one of the copies but as I live in Paris I totally understand if I am not eligible considering the postal rates etc ! Will see if I can find it at one of the international magazine booksellers here.
By the way discovered your blog via Jane's Pure blog and it's a real pleasure , take care

Hi Shannon - your reno is Gorgeous with a capital G. Something I've always wanted to ask of someone featured in a shelter mag - did you have to do much styling in the rooms? Cords hidden/products removed/TV's removed/family photos? I know I do a major edit when people come over (toothbrushes/toothpaste gets thrown in the cupboard, washing basket in the cupboard, etc).. is that what a home shoot is like, or are things more staged? Or are many homes just simply pristine?

Shannon Fricke said...

Hi Steph,
Trust me when I say that YES, the mess has been hidden well and truly behind the camera lens! With the two kids, a husband, and animals - there's always some picking up to do! Also, I don't think it's possible to live comfortably in a house that looks like a magazine spread - we all have piles of magazines and bills on the kitchen bench! When I do a shoot I try to keep some of the 'guts' of house on show - however at the same time we don't want that 'stuff' to detract from the beauty of the interior and the pieces in it. It's always a balance....

Hi Shannon - OK so that is a huge relief! I read a quote recently that also gives me some hope. It goes something like this: "Picking up after a toddler is like sweeping falling snow". Too funny!

Your house is beautiful I love the colours. I would love to win the mag it is one of my favourites but i rarely purchase mags.

I live in England and always buy Inside Out because I am a fan of the magazine and a fan of yours. Waiting for the magazine to arrive here gives me an expectation feeling that is great, but it is even better when that is magnified and followed by excitement when I walk into the Bookstore and see that the magazine has finally made it to the shelf. And it is just there, waiting for me. It makes me happy.

Shannon,
Over the years I have followed your family though Lifestyle Channel snipets. I loved your old kids room tranformation, your garden modelled on the lady next door and imagined myself and kids looking cool and relaxed as we baked a cake in a tiny whimsical kitchen. Of course my world looks nothing like yours and when we gave up foxtel I thought I'd never see my inspiration girl again. Alas I have now found your blog and more excitingly a whole new house to envy!!!!

I have recently been inspired by the blog "Apartment Therapy" to paint the interior of my parents house. A friend of mine, inspired by your blog, came over to borrow a staple gun to cover her lounge chair today. She told me about your blog and your mag and that this months issue in particular was very good. I am very interested to read about the reno of your house. Jane Bolton

There are several reasons...
I like your blog so much!
There is no possibility to get this mag in Switzerland...
My husband and I bought an old house last year, it would be so nice to see all this moods from your world!

I cross my fingers!

I raced out and bought the magazine quicker than you can imagine and I love your house. I am a huge fan of Antique White USA and love the Florence Boradhurst. Your life looks amazing, it has always been a dream of mine to escape but I think you sound like you have the best of both worlds. Thank you for sharing.

Woud LOVE a copy of your mag. I am in the US, am I eligible? Don't know InsideOut and I thought I'd seen every design mag out there. We have a terrible dearth of good design mags in the US right now...thank God for blogs, I need beautiful pictures in my life!
