Jocelyn Warner - Wallpaper Art

If you're a regular to my blog then you've you've probably worked out that I'm a big wallpaper fan. I find that it's such a lovely way to add an element of eccentricity to a space. I'm always excited when I come across a wallpaper designer whose work I've never seen before and was overjoyed when a colleague introduced me tot he beautiful designs of Jocelyn Warner. Jocelyn launched her own wallpaper label in 1999 with a collection of hand printed wallpapers which were created by scanning plants and objects at life size, then manipulating them on the computer to simplify their form. Her unique style, which includes repeated patterns and organic forms are contemporary with an edge of quirkiness, and at times eeriness. They'd certainly contribute to a very unique interior indeed.

A Few Colour Tips

When I think about bold and bright colour combinations, it's the designs of Tricia Guild from Designer's Guild that spring to mind. If you love the idea of using colour in your home but aren't quite sure how to go about it, then these few tips should help...

* Look to the environment around you for colour inspiration. The green of the trees, the blue ocean, the grey city streets all provide the opportunity to see colour in action
* Think about colours in terms of their unique character and personality. How does each colour make you feel? Could you live with it?
* Stick with strong and vibrant colours - like red, hot pink and orange - to stimulate and promote the feeling of activity in a room.
* Keep to the cooler end of the spectrum - that is blue and green - if calm and tranquility is what you prefer.
* Combine bright colour with bold and geometric patterning to create a contemporary space
* Muted, earthy tones of orange, pink and mustard convey a feeling of warmth and laid-back living
* Even a simple colour gesture, through a cushion or rug on the floor will add individuality and interest to a space

Welcome Back Wallpaper

Thank goodness that wallpaper has become fashionable again; I can't think of a more sophisticated way to infuse colour and pattern into a home. I view wallpaper as a kind of artwork for your walls, providing colour and interest for the eye and excitement for the soul. Sadly, though, many people are scared to use it - the permanency of the pattern and the fear that once it falls out of fashion you'll be stuck with it outweighs its benefits. However, the contemporary approach to wallpaper is to use it sparingly, on a single wall or entrance area - using it this way saves you from overwhelming the rest of the decor and ensures your interior remains current. The designs created by the late Florence Broadhurst (which you'll find at www.signatureprints.com.au) are my favourite of all - their colour and pattern remain modern regardless of the era. Here's a couple of examples to titillate the senses! And what about this picture of Florence in her day! I hope you like the pics as much as I do.
