Lightness

Light is everything, don't you find? It affects how you see, how you feel, how you move, how you love. I do love bright light - it picks me up, makes me feel alive... However could there be anything more sublime than dawn and twilight - this is surreal light, and somehow makes me feel more connected to the heavens. When decorating your space, it's important to manipulate the light to suit your needs - it is one of the most malleable decorating tools to use of all. I adore the lightness in these photos from Marie Claire Maison... European light... Muted, soft and somehow tangible...

I agree Shannon, the one thing at the top of my list when we bought our little place, was light, light and more of it. You can put up with an oldish, small place if you have lots of beautiful rays coming in......

Light affects my mood, my appetite and my appreciation of all things. I actually never really realised until recently since I've taken more of an interest in photography...

i spent 10 years living in sunny california recently, and the light has never left me, even though i now have moved to the somewhat drearier (at least in the winter) new england coast. light is just about everything isn't it? love your blog btw. have been stopping by on and off for years. many thanks!

So absolutely true Shannon. Great designers definitely know how to address the light in a room. I love bright rooms but like you fancy those moodier spaces too. The woman who we purchase our current home from had every darn window in this house covered and tightly. The first day I moved in I took all the sheers and drapes down. It felt good!!

Have a lovely week Shannon ~ Deb
