A Bric-a-Brac Day....

One rainy Sunday in Paris, a group of girls on holiday headed out to the markets at Vanves - the Puces aux Vanves - in search of fun and adventure. They started off with a quick pit stop at a local cafe for a cafe creme to get themselves revved up for what lay ahead. The market was busy even though it was a grey old day - filled to the brim with collectors looking for some treasure. And oh, what treasure was to be found. Beautiful silver cutlery, lacy linens, vintage buttons, lamps, chairs and bits and bobs of varying size, colour and shape. They stopped for a crepe with sucre and citron (or two or three!!!) as they weaved their way around the stalls. One avid collector amongst them filled their very deep bag full of gorgeous finds to be shipped back to Australia. Happy and shopped out, they headed home - satisfied to have seen some living Paris culture in action...

Markets are the best. My favourite thing in the world. I'm off to Portobello market now. I go every Friday.

Yes, as others have commented, it brings back such lovely memories. Hope you are coping with the language. I was so awkward all the time with my very bad French. Luckily the French have a beautiful sense of humour and were all wonderful to me. Sigh, I miss the markets. I treaure all my little French finds. The vintage magazines, even the glass touristy Paris Pink shaker.

Yes, my language skills are limited and they do all speak such perfect English! However, I have bumbled along and the locals have been so gracious in allowing me some practice! Oh Paris! Such a divine place.

So lovely to hear from you personally then. I was just reading an old magazine I had kept with a feature of you and your lovely children in your Watsons Bay fishermans cottage. Happy belated Mothers Day to you. Safe journeys! x

My kinda day! My husband was totally baffled that we traveled all the way to Paris and I wanted to spend a day at the flea market--it was heaven and some of my favorite collectibles are from that little excursion.

Thanks for sharing. I'm loving your pics from Paris.

What a nice photo collage of the markets, Shannon. Did you go to the vintage button stall? That one is my favourite. And the man who runs it is very sweet.
Glad you are having such a lovely time. It's nice to be able to read about it. Your posts are great digital postcards.
